History

The Rotary Club of Wilton was chartered in 1979 and is based at Wilton, the original administrative centre of the county of Wiltshire in southern England. The members of the Club live principally in Wilton, nearby Salisbury and the villages of the Chalke and Avon river valleys south of Wilton. [Right: Wilton House].

Activities

The activities of The Rotary Club of Wilton are reflected in its programme of events which include fundraising, community service and fellowship activities.  In June 2005, the Club led a joint celebration of the centenary of Rotary by staging jointly with

The Rotary Clubs of Salisbury and Amesbury a fundraising banquet in the grounds of Wilton House which raised £53,000 most of which was donated to help fund the equipment of the Pembroke Ward, a newly created specialist cancer treatment facility at Salisbury District Hospital.  The Club is now a Supporter of the Hospital's Stars Appeal.  The Club also holds one of the largest “Car Boot” Sales in southern England on the Summer Bank Holiday which typically funds most of its ongoing programme of giving to various charities and organizations, both local and international.

Membership

The Club currently consists of 36 members with a variety of backgrounds. Several own their own businesses such as property development and building, information technology, hotels and catering, healthcare and automobile engineering.  Others are employed in various professional positions including real estate, legal and financial services, and some are retired.  We also have one honorary member, The Earl of Pembroke, whose family home, Wilton House pictured above, is a major tourist attraction in the centre of Wilton.

Members are brought together not only by a common desire to serve and enhance their own communities and those of others in need farther afield, but also by the fellowship that membership of Rotary offers.
